Bruce Springsteen isn’t shy about his politics, particularly his feelings about President Donald Trump. That’s why it’s probably not surprising to hear that he, alongside Houserockers frontman Joe Grushecky, has put out a new protest song against the current president and his policies.
The song, titled “That’s What Makes Us Great,” takes swipes that are clearly aimed at President Donald Trump.
“Don’t tell me a lie/And sell it as a fact/I’ve been down that road before/And I ain’t going back,” goes one stanza in the single.
The song, written by Grushecky and sung by Springsteen, doesn’t hold back any punches — much like the duo who put it together.
President Trump “lost me the moment he started making fun of special needs people,” Grushecky explained to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette. “How could a person like that be President of the United States?”
Springsteen, too, has been outspoken against the Trump administration. In a January episode of comedian Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Springsteen talked about his “disgust” with Trump and the values he embraces and represents, in addition to the fear he has about whether or not America will survive the Trump regime.
“It’s as simple as the fear of, is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Forget about where they are ideologically. Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?” Springsteen said at the time.
“America is a nation of immigrants and we find this anti-democratic and fundamentally un-American,” the Boss said at a concert in January.

The song title, “That’s What Makes Us Great,” itself seems to be a swipe at Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” suggesting the things that make the country great are the very things Trump stands against.
The song is currently available for purchase at Grushecky’s website for $0.99.
