The White House just admitted that President Trump’s latest accusation against the Obama administration is not true.
Earlier this morning, Trump accused Obama of releasing 122 Guantanamo Bay detainees who later took up arms against the United States:
122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 7, 2017
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence reports that 113 of these 122 “vicious” former detainees were released during the Bush administration.
“Obviously the president meant in totality,” Sean Spicer told reporters. “The number that had been released on the battlefield – that have been released from Gitmo since individuals have been released. That is correct.”
As of this writing, Trump’s incorrect tweet has not been deleted.
