Trump just went on an unhinged Twitter rant and it’s beyond petty

President Trump’s aides really need to do a better job of hiding the president’s phone from him, as his Twitter habits continue to make a mockery of his office.

On Tuesday night at approximately 11 PM Eastern, President Trump offered his 28.6 million followers his take on FBI Director James Comey, saying he “gave [Hillary Clinton] a free pass for many bad deeds!” Trump went on to refer to himself in the third person, marveling at his own election night victory and accusing Democrats of using the “phony” allegations of Russian election interference as “an excuse” to justify their loss in November.

“Perhaps Trump just ran a great campaign?” The president said, in reference to himself.

Trump’s tweets may be a response to the news that members of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committee will soon be meeting with both Comey and former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates to glean information pertaining to their respective investigations into the Trump campaign’s alleged communications with Russia during the campaign. CNN’s Jim Sciutto, Manu Raju, and Pamela Brown reported earlier today that one of the topics of conversation between committee members and Comey will be the re-opening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, which the former Secretary of State said cost her the election:

Democrats will push Comey on what has been learned about campaign contact, according to Democrats on the committee. Sens. Chris Coons of Delaware and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut say they will also seek answers on why Comey spoke publicly about an investigation into Hillary Clinton but not about the Russia investigation that kicked off in the summer of the campaign.

The FBI’s investigation into Trump’s Russian connections is ongoing. Comey has said little about the investigation itself.
