During President Trump’s Thursday press conference with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, MSNBC corrected Trump with a graphic.
While Trump obviously tried to stick with the narrative all of his top surrogates gave for firing FBI Director James Comey — which was that he fired Comey after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein recommended he do so — MSNBC’s graphics team wasn’t about to let him off that easy.
“TRUMP: I FIRED COMEY ON DEPUTY AG’S RECOMMENDATION (SAID LAST WEEK HE’D FIRE WHATEVER THE ADVICE),” the graphic read.

Trump’s firing of Comey, who was leading the agency’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s communications with Russia during the 2016 election, triggered suspicions from both Democrats and Republicans. During an interview following the Comey firing, Trump insisted to NBC’s Lester Holt that he was going to fire Comey regardless of what the recommendation was from top officials at the Department of Justice.
