Republicans are celebrating Gianforte bodyslamming reporter. This GOP strategist’s response is EPIC.

Rick Wilson, a Republican strategist and consultant, just perfectly demolished Republicans who took Greg Gianforte’s side after his assault on a reporter.

Wilson took fellow conservatives to task who suggested that Gianforte was correct to bodyslam Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs for asking him a question about the recent CBO score of the Republican healthcare proposal. One example is Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-California), who said attacking a journalist is unwarranted “unless the reporter deserved it.” That sentiment was echoed by many hardcore Trump supporters on Twitter:

Prior to the bodyslamming incident, Gianforte had been withholding comment on the legislation until the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score came out, perhaps hoping that the wildly unpopular bill wouldn’t be scored until after the May 25 special election. After the bill was officially scored by the CBO, Jacobs entered a room where Fox News reporters were also present. After asking him about the CBO score, Gianforte told Jacobs to “get the hell out of here,” and, according to the Fox News reporters, jumped on top of Jacobs, punched him several times, and even put his hands around his neck. Audio of the event sounds particularly violent.

In his blistering 11-tweet thread, Wilson admonished his fellow conservatives for not quickly condemning Gianforte’s attack on Jacobs, saying that they would likely not feel the same way if the parents of murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich took out their frustration on Fox News host Sean Hannity, who has been continuing to push a debunked conspiracy theory about Rich’s murder despite his employer retracting its own story about it.

Wilson added that “clickservatives” celebrating Gianforte’s assault on a reporter likely had never thrown a punch in their life, and were going down a dangerous path by calling for violence against people of differing political persuasions.
