A 2014 interview has resurfaced in which President Trump’s son, Eric, admitted to being indebted to Russia.
In a recent segment on Boston’s WBUR, reporter James Dodson recounted a time when, as a golf writer, he interviewed the Trump family about funding for the Trump National Golf Course in Charlotte, North Carolina. While Donald Trump “brushed off” the fact that his course had $100 million in funding, Eric was on site, and was apparently much more open about where his family got the money to build the golf course.
This is what [Eric Trump] said. He said, ‘Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.’ I said, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Oh, yeah. We’ve got some guys that really, really love golf, and they’re really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time.’”
Trump is attempting to play down accusations that his campaign team was in regular talks with Russian officials during the election. The FBI’s investigation of those allegations is ongoing, along with investigations by the intelligence committees in both houses of Congress.
