Congressman tells Trump he’s in ‘deep shit’ if a judge found probable cause to tap his phones

Congressman Ted Lieu (D-California) just let President Trump know he’s in a world of shit if his phones were indeed tapped.

Early Saturday morning, Trump accused former President Barack Obama of tapping phones at Trump Tower prior to the election in a flurry of tweets, referring to the alleged wiretapping as “McCarthyism.” It’s believed that President Trump was triggered by a Breitbart article that accused the Obama administration of staging a “silent coup” against Trump.

However, in a series of tweets of his own, Rep. Lieu — who is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee — told Trump that if his phones were indeed tapped as the result of a FISA court order, then there was probable cause of a crime.

“You’re in deep shit,” Rep. Lieu tweeted.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA court) is tasked with hearing requests for wiretapping based on he belief that there is probable cause that the subject of surveillance has committed or been complicit in the commission of a crime. It’s unlikely that the FISA court would approve a wiretapping order against a high-profile person like Donald Trump unless there was reason to believe he had taken part in illegal activity.
