Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) just took to the floor of the Senate to demand House Speaker Paul Ryan fire Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California).
Sen. Schumer — leader of the Senate Democratic caucus — made the comments on Monday evening, the same day it was revealed that Rep. Nunes met at the White House with the source of his spurious claims that the Trump transition team was surveilled. At the time, the House Intelligence chairman directly briefed President Trump about the claims before sharing that information with other members of the House Intelligence Committee, which Rep. Nunes currently chairs. Nunes has since walked back his allegations that Trump’s presidential transition team was spied on, according to NBC News.
During his floor speech, Schumer noted the importance of credibility when it came to federal investigations, and said that the California Congressman’s briefing of President Trump jeopardized the credibility of an ongoing investigation, namely the investigation currently underway of the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, being conducted by multiple agencies, but also his own committee.
“There should be no doubt about the integrity and the impartiality of the investigation,” Sen. Schumer said. “The House Intelligence Committee has come under a cloud of suspicion and partisanship.”
“Without further ado, Speaker Ryan should replace Chairman Nunes,” he added. “If Speaker Ryan wants the House to have a credible investigation, he needs to replace Chairman Nunes.”

Rep. Nunes has apologized to other members of the Intelligence Committee for his actions, though as of this writing, he has not yet stepped down from his position as chairman.
