Senator Bernie Sanders slammed President Trump on Tuesday after the Donald cast blame on the “alt-left” and counter protesters for the violence in Charlottesville on Saturday.
Sanders tweeted that Trump is “embarrassing our country and the millions of Americans who fought and died to defeat Nazis.”*
.@realDonaldTrump, you are embarrassing our country and the millions of Americans who fought and died to defeat Nazism.

Sanders also laid into Trump’s use of the term “alt-term”, which some have criticized for equating real political differences.
“The violence is Charlottesville was not caused by the ‘alt-left,’ (whatever that may be),” the Vermont senator tweeted. “It was caused by Neo-Nazis and white supremacists.”
Sanders’ criticism came after Trump told a reporter that there was “blame on both sides” and “the alt-left” was “violently attacking” the white nationalists during the rally. Trump’s comments earned the support of former Klu Klux Klan imperial Wizard David Duke.
Days of protest and criticism of Trump’s initial response to the bloodshed in Charlottesville forced the president to deliver a statement that condemned “the K.K.K., neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups,” but his sincerity immediately came under question after he retweeted a right-wing conspiracy theorist.
