Footage of Donald Trump promising voters that “we’re not going to be big on vacations” has gone viral today, as the president wraps up his 6th vacation after only being president for 8 weeks.

You hear that Trump didn't hoodwink voters (they knew what they were getting!) and then find clips like this. Just breathtaking hypocrisy. pic.twitter.com/LDnb3Xr7oF

“There’s no time for vacations,” Trump told a crowd of cheering supporters. “We’re not going to be big on vacations… the White House is like this incredible place, right? Represents so much, and you’re there for a limited period of time. If you’re at the White House, and you have so much work to do, why do you fly so- why do you leave so much? Ya know, you’d think you’d wanna work, work, work, straighten it out, get it done, fix it up, make it great, and then when you’re finished, you can be proud. But boy are we a mess.”
Rightwing outlet Judicial Watch estimated that nearly $97 million was spent on “extracurricular activities” for President Obama, Vice President Biden, and their families combined during their 8 years in the White House. If Trump’s vacation habits persist, he will have cost taxpayers $420 million after a single 4 year term.
Palm Beach, Florida has also been forced to foot the bill for $1 million in costs caused by Trump’s frequent visits, despite the $40 million deficit their county is currently struggling with.
When the Democratic mayor of Palm Beach County was asked how they will afford these added costs, she said regretfully that “It will either be cuts or (an) increase in taxes.”
