Somebody made a bot that converts Trump’s tweets into official presidential statements and it’s brilliant

A Twitter bot is brilliantly showcasing how idiotic President Trump’s tweets sound when reframed as official presidential statements.

The account @RealPressSecBot is built to compile Trump’s tweets and put them under White House Press Secretary letterhead, with the heading “Statement by the President” with the date and “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE” at the top.

In the account’s first official tweets, it repackaged President Trump’s missives tweeted following the London terror attacks, in which he attacked the mayor of London for not whipping people into a frenzy following the attacks, and that the terrorists in London didn’t use guns to carry out the violence in three parts of London on Saturday night.

As Pat Cunnane, a former White House official in the Obama administration pointed out, the fact that Trump is commenting on current events from his official, verified Twitter account makes the tweets de facto presidential statements.

Obviously, the tweets look out of place when packaged as presidential statements, especially when comparing them to past presidential statements made by former President Barack Obama in the wake of terrorist attacks.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded,” President Obama said after the terrorist attack in Nice, France. “I have directed my team to be in touch with French officials, and we have offered any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice.”

“Do you notice we are not having a gun debate right now?” President Trump tweeted on Sunday. “That’s because they used knives and a truck!”

As of this writing, Trump has still not yet tweeted any condolences for the victims of the London attacks.
