Trump admits ‘made up’ Russia story was behind reason for firing Comey

Donald Trump was asked in a interview with NBC to describe his reasoning behind firing former FBI Director James Comey, he immediately speaks about the investigation into his ties with Russia.

In an interview with NBC Nightly News’ Lester Holt, Trump was questioned about his recent decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. Comey was fired by Trump abruptly early this week supposedly on the sole grounds of the handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation and loss of the confidence of his peers.

“Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey,” Trump explained, “knowing there was no good time to do it.”

Trump immediately went on to explain his true motive behind his decision to dismiss Comey and directly mentioned the investigation of Trump/Russia ties.

“And in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story,” He added.

“It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won. This was an excuse for having lost the election.

Trump also admitted in the segment that he asked Comey if he was under investigation, once over dinner and two other occassions by phone, even though the probe directly involved his campaign.

“I actually asked him if I were under investigation”, Trump explained, “I said, if it’s possible would you let me know, am I under investigation? He said, ‘You are not under investigation.'”

“I know I’m not under investigation,” Trump told Holt. Trump concluded the show by saying that he supports a full investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election expressing that he wants the probe done “absolutely properly”.
