In a stunning attempt to prevent Donald Trump from withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, the Tesla CEO warned Trump there will be consequences.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, threatened to withdraw his membership from Trump’s Strategic and Policy Council of business executives, if the president made the decision to remove the U.S. from the Paris Climate Deal.
The Hill reported Wednesday that Trump was planning on pulling the U.S. from the agreement and is working a group led by the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt on the exact mechanism of pulling out before announcing his final decision.
Following the report, Musk sent out a tweet proclaiming that he tried to sway Trump’s decision and that he would have no choice but to quit the council if Trump decides to leave.
Don't know which way Paris will go, but I've done all I can to advise directly to POTUS, through others in WH & via councils, that we remain

Musk has previously come under heavy scrutiny because of his position on Trump’s council, while also facing pressure from activists as well. Musk maintains that he uses his position in the group to voice his concerns on Trump’s travel ban on Muslims, but he states despite any political disagreements he feels that it is important for him to be a part of the “debate.”
