One day after revealing that President Trump himself is being investigated for obstruction of justice, The Washington Post just reported that former FBI Director Robert Mueller is also investigating Jared Kushner’s business dealings.
The investigation is being conducted by the independent investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible relationship with Russian hacker operatives, led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.
The president’s son-in-law has been mentioned as a person of interest in Russia-related matter before. Kushner has been investigated for various meetings he’s had with Russian operatives, including reports that Kushner once suggested a secure communications line between the Trump administration and the Russian Kremlin. This is the first leak to confirm that investigators are also combing through Kushner’s finances.
“We do not know what this report refers to,” said Jamie Gorelick, one of Kushner’s lawyers. “It would be standard practice for the Special Counsel to examine financial records to look for anything related to Russia. Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters. He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry.”
Robert Mueller’s spokesman Peter Carr did not comment on this story, but did say “that the Special Counsel’s Office has undertaken stringent controls to prohibit unauthorized disclosures and will deal severely with any member who engages in this conduct.”
Further details of these investigations have come to light as speculation runs high that the volatile Trump might fire Mueller, after a longtime Trump friend revealed the president was currently being stopped from doing so by the fervent counsel of his aides.
