Pope Francis criticizes “Mother Of All Bombs” name

The Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb, or “Mother Of All Bombs” as it has been dubbed, has been criticized by the highest ranking religious official in the Catholic religion.

Pope Francis is upset over the title of the¬†GBU-43/B, the military’s most powerful non-nuclear explosive, as being the “mother of all bombs.” The Pope explained that the word “mother” is a term of endearment not to be classified in the category of a deadly weapon.

“I was ashamed when I heard the name,” the Pope told an audience of students. “A mother gives life and this one gives death, and we call this device a mother. What is happening?” said the Pope.

Last month, the U.S. military dropped the MOAB on suspected ISIS targets in Afghanistan. The bomb was dropped in an area mined with explosives by suspected ISIS targets near where U.S. troops had been engaged in combat.

The Pope’s comments come as he is set to meet with Donald Trump on May 24.
