Paul Ryan: We’ve been dreaming of gutting Medicaid since we “were drinking out of a keg!”

According to Paul Ryan, he’s been dreaming of cutting health benefits to poor Americans ever since he was a young guy drinking out of kegs with his Republican buddies.

Ryan happily gushed with his old friend Rich Lowry today at a largely conservative gathering on Friday about this golden opportunity for the GOP.

“Medicaid. Sending it back to the states. Capping its growth rate,” Ryan said wistfully. “We’ve been dreaming of this since I’ve been around. Since you and I were drinking out of a keg!”

The relevant moment can be found in the video below, at around the 33 minute mark.

Lowry, editor of conservative magazine National Review, had introduced Ryan by reminiscing of a kegger that had been thrown in 1997 in Lowry’s honor which Ryan had briefly attended.

Ryan’s bill is expected to deprive 24 million Americans of health care, with poor and elderly Americans being hit the hardest while the wealthiest Americans receive a $600 billion dollar tax cut.

With dreams like these, who needs nightmares?
