Trump’s Budget Eliminates These 66 Essential Programs [Details]

President Trump’s proposed budget, “A New Foundation for American Greatness,” is truly horrifying, and would mean the end of dozens of crucial programs.

The 62-page proposal for Fiscal Year 2018 would allocate roughly $54 billion for new military spending, while making double-digit cuts to various federal agencies tasked with protecting everything from the environment, to international relations, schools, and the food supply. The Trump budget outline would slash an astounding 31.4 percent from the Environmental Protection Agency in comparison to Fiscal Year 2017 levels, 29.1 percent from the State Department, and 20.5 percent from the Department of Agriculture, for starters.

However, those numbers by themselves don’t adequately speak to the staggering number of programs that would be eliminated entirely under the Trump budget. Some of the most notable programs that Trump proposes eliminating is the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program, which provides Meals on Wheels with a significant chunk of the funding it needs to stay in operation. The Trump budget would also eliminate the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (which funds NPR and PBS), and regional commissions that his most ardent supporters in rural America depend on.

The Hill painstakingly assembled a complete list of 66 programs that would be completely defunded if the Trump budget proposal became official.
